Like millions of other teens I have been inflicted with a HORRIBLE disease called acne. Of course, the cosmetic industries have come up with hundreds of different products to minimize acne.
How do these work?
Most of the over the counter treatments work by removing a large percentage of the oil in the skin. For most people this works fine, but what you may not realize is that if you remove the natural oils from your face, your face will make more of the same oils. Thus, you get stuck in an endless cycle of removing the oil from your face only to have the production of oil increased.
Doesn't it sound silly? To have your face dependent on these chemicals for five or more years of your life? I for one decided that it does. I tried a couple natural remedies that seemed to keep new acne from appearing, but the acne that was already there hardly went away. Until one day my mother suggested honey.
That's right, I said honey. And it works!
The three main causes of acne:
1. Extra oil being produced.
2. Dead skin cells getting stuck in pores.
3. Growth of bacteria in pores.
Numbers one and two are greatly increased during the teenage years.
The typical treatment is to treat the over-productive oil by simply removing the oil. (We already discussed why this isn't the best way). There are ways to treat the dead skin cells, but I haven't looked into that yet. The third way to treat acne is by getting rid of the bacteria.
I'm sure you want to know where honey comes into all this. Well, honey is anti-bacterial. So, a honey wash or mask treats acne without chemicals, artificial colors, or drugs.
Why doesn't everyone use honey?? I have no idea. I'm simply in love. :) My skin feels baby soft, and my acne is quickly disappearing!
How do you use the honey?
First things first. It MUST be RAW honey. Raw honey can be purchased at many health and natural food stores. All that "raw" means is that the honey is in its original form. It hasn't been boiled, and nothing has been extracted from it.
Simply rub the raw honey into your face, leave on for fifteen minutes (for best results), and then simply wash off in the shower, or with a wash cloth. If you do some vigorous rubbing it may help to remove dead skin cells also. If you don't have fifteen minutes, don't skip the treatment, just leave it on for as much time as you have.
Please remember that I'm not an expert, and I'm not a cosmetician. All I'm saying is that my acne is going away and I love it. <3
Blessings,
Sarah
